About Boca Chicas

Boca Chicas, in Spanish, means pretty mouths. It should actually be BocaS Chicas but that was already a website. You know how it is when you love something, right? Good, because I love the sound of the name and essential meaning so much I figure I’ll sacrifice correct grammar for the greater good(and by greater good, I mean, of course, me). If you are a spanish speaking person and this irks you, I do apologize. Just not enough to change it!

In the early stages of my website building foray, this was supposed to be a website dedicated to Folk Art. Showcasing art and the people that create it from all over the world, how it’s done, what the traditions are and what they mean to each community. I adore Folk Art to the very core of my being. So I spent the better part of a year frustrated that it never came together, but here was this other thing that was happening organically…through my Facebook wall, through Twitter, emails, real life conversations and experiences…after years of being a mom to small children and not having the time to pay attention to myself, my life had changed. I had grown up and realized I once again had my own identity. During this shift, I rediscovered my love for the beauty industry, fashion accessories, and being a total girly girl. Visiting with friends and making new connections via social media, I realized I had something to offer and the light bulb turned on! I really want this website to reflect who and where I am right now, try my hand at being a beauty journalist, and see what happens.

What I’d love to see happen, what I want so much to have is a place where us girls can gather and have a chat, laugh a little too loud, use a swear word(or a few) and know it’s all good. Because that’s who I am; social, happy, interested, sometimes(ok, often) a bit low brow(though I think in my head just how great it would be to wear Chanel and be proper. Yeah, that’s not gonna happen.). Nothing would bring me greater joy than to see the ranks of readers and contributors evolve and grow, creating all of these amazing relationships and networks. Also, I really love to laugh. Bring it!

I hope you’ll stick around. I hope you’ll let down your hair. I hope you’ll pour yourself a glass of wine(or beer, or tea, whatever you like), settle into your comfiest spot and make this a great place to be. I hope you’ll learn something. I hope you’ll feel something. I hope you’ll share. I hope I’ll receive.

One last thing: the website is truly a rough work in progress. I know I’d like it to be slick and properly connected in order to reach as many cool chics as possible. It’ll get there. I’ll get there. For now, the learning curve is only just inching off the baseline. If you have any tips and tricks you’d be willing to share, boy, I’d sure love to hear the crap out of them!
